Faculty Chair's Welcome

Welcome to the Ayers Residential College of Commerce and Industry!

Welcome to the Ayers Residential College of Commerce and Industry (or the much pithier CCI for short!).  I’m thrilled to be the new Faculty Chair for CCI, though I’m not new to residential life or the residential college system.

For the past seven years, I was living down on the other end of campus in Willard Hall, serving as the Faculty-in-Residence for the Southwest Area. As part of that work, I had the pleasure of collaborating with a number of res colleges, including Willard Residential College, Shepard Residential College, PARC, and Chapin. Before my time living on campus, I served as the Faculty Chair for Shepard for three years, and prior to that I was a faculty fellow in CCI for seven years, so returning to CCI as faculty chair is a sort of residential college homecoming for me.

I am happy to be able to tell you that you have made a great choice to come and join us and live in CCI! Just a bit about me (beyond my history working in residential life): I have a background as a Clinical and Developmental Psychologist, and I teach courses for the Psychology department that include Statistical Methods, Research Methods, Child Psychopathology, and Psychology of the Holocaust. I am also teaching a first-year seminar this fall, “Mental Health Diagnosis and Treatment: Psychological and Economic Themes”. While the bulk of my work involves teaching, advising, and administration, I also have research interests that center around pedagogy (for example, what are the best ways to keep students engaged when they take a statistics course!). I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, and I also worked as a psychotherapist with adults, children, and families for about a decade, though I am not currently in practice. I am the Associate Chair Professor of Instruction in the Psychology Department.

I anticipate an exciting year ahead in CCI – I am looking forward to bringing in a number of new faculty fellows to expand our already amazing core group, and you can look forward to meeting many of them at RC events (fireside chats, meals in the dining hall, and other college events) over the coming year. Your assistant chair, Gabriel Schat, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Philosophy, is returning to the role this year and has lots of experience and knowledge that will contribute to a great year ahead. Your CCI exec board is also ready to go with lots of great ideas and energy to get the year off to a great start. CCI had a great tradition of hosting an annual business symposium, so I hope to work with the exec board and Gabriel to see if we might revive that tradition in the upcoming year.

I look forward to welcoming you to campus in September!
