An Introduction to Northwestern's Residential Area Councils

Living on campus at Northwestern provides students with unique opportunities to engage with their residential communities. Norris at Night 2025

Each fall during Wildcat Welcome, we host Norris at Night as a fun-filled event that introduces you to all that Norris University Center offers. With activities throughout the building, you will learn where to go to relax, meet up, eat, and get more involved at NU.


At Home in Evanston Community Fair

September 15, 2025, 2:00-4:00 PM, Cohen Lawn, east of Norris

What to better understand the Evanston community?

The At Home in Evanston community fair will ignite your curiosity about the place you live and introduce you to some amazing neighbors.

Come out to grab free food and swag, and have conversations with Evanston community leaders including elected officials, businesses, non-profits, artists, and affinity spaces. All are welcome!


Ice-Cream Social

September 17, 2025, 5:30-7:00 PM, Fireman's Park

Meet neighbors and connect with the community while enjoying free ice cream. Ice-cream will be provided by C&W Market and Ice Cream Parlor to the first 300 participants!


URAP Unpacked

September 19, 2025, Norris Lake Room

Join the Office of Student Transition Experiences and Office of Undergraduate Research on Friday, September 19th from 12-1pm in the Norris Lake Room for our URAP Unpacked event. Here we will chat through the Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program, how to engage with faculty, and a breakdown of the application process. 


Opening Reception for Ann Kogen street photography exhibition: STREET

October 2, 2025, 6:00-8:00 PM, Dittmar Gallery 

STREET is a series of candid street photographs from the early 1980s. Striking black and white photographs showcase people on the street, chance encounters, and reflections from windows. Captured on the streets of many cities from Chicago, Illinois, to Cairo, Egypt, the timeless quality of the photographs evokes a sense of common humanity. STREET invites viewers to reflect on the ways photography shapes our understanding of public spaces and the stories embedded within them.


 

Books and Breakfast Fall Volunteer Onboarding

Come and join Books and Breakfast as a new volunteer! Help kids start their school day with academic support and love!

All undergrads are welcome to get involved! You must attend an onboarding session on Friday, Sept 19 at 3pm, 4pm or 5pm.


Red Watch Band Alcohol Bystander Intervention Trainings

Have you ever had to help a drunk friend but weren’t sure exactly what you were doing? You’ll also learn about how alcohol affects our physiology and behavior, signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning and the truth behind common alcohol-related myths.

CSAW's Opioid Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Trainings

October 29, 2025, 6:00-7:00 PM, Searle Hall 3.220

This 1-hour . Attendees will learn how to recognize signs of an opioid overdose, identify when it is appropriate to use Narcan, learn how to administer Narcan, and identify additional emergency steps to take. All attendees will receive a two-pack of Narcan upon completion of the training. Trainings will be offered at least two times a quarter.

Every year, Northwestern honors outstanding high school teachers with the Schapiro Award. This award program, sponsored by the Office of the President with the cooperation of the School of Education and Social Policy, and supported by the Associated Student Government, recognizes the transforming power of high school teachers in our lives and our communities.

Wildcats in Recovery

Northwestern’s Center for Student Advocacy and Support (CSAW) is now presenting “Wildcats in Recovery” - a Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP) that aims to support students in Recovery. This group is open to students who are in (or contemplating) recovery from substance use disorders, process addictions, and eating disorders. We aim to bring students together and provide them with the necessary resources to excel at Northwestern in their academics and in their recovery.

Find a Spiritual Direction at Northwestern

Spiritual Direction is a one-on-one space to explore life’s big questions of meaning, purpose, identity, or whatever’s on your mind. It’s open to all backgrounds whether you are religious or not. Sessions last about 45 minutes, once a month, and may include conversation, silence, and reflection. It offers you the chance to pause, pay attention to your inner world, and stay grounded during the rush of college life. Learn more and schedule a preliminary session.
